Editorial policy

Every fact on Vermont Radon comes from a named official source, usually the Vermont Department of Health or the U.S. EPA, and links to it. This page explains how we write, check and correct the site.

Sources

  • Every factual sentence has a numbered footnote. The numbers jump to the page’s source list, which names the publisher, links the document and shows the date we last checked it.
  • We prefer the Vermont Department of Health and the EPA. When we use another source, such as the Vermont Geological Survey or the American Lung Association, we name it and say what its figure counts.
  • If a source doesn’t say it, we don’t either. We don’t invent numbers, contractors, reviews or testimonials.
  • Numbers we work out ourselves from Health Department data are labeled “calculated by Vermont Radon from Health Department data.”

Dates and reviews

Each guide shows a “Last reviewed” date at the end of the page, just above its source list, and each source shows the date we last checked it. We change the reviewed date only when we have rechecked the page against its sources, not for small edits.

Town data

Town figures come from the Health Department’s “Radon Risk in Vermont” map data service.1 We save a copy of the data with the date we retrieved it, and every town page shows that date. The current copy was retrieved October 17, 2026. Like the Health Department, we don’t show rates for towns with too few results.

How we use AI tools

Vermont Radon is researched and maintained with the help of AI tools, under the owner’s supervision. AI tools help us find official documents, draft and edit pages, and build the site. Every fact is checked against its cited source before it is published, and the source stays linked on the page so you can check it too.

Independence

Vermont Radon is not run by or affiliated with the Vermont Department of Health, the EPA or any certification body. For official help, contact the Vermont Radon Program at 802-863-7220 or 800-439-8550 (toll-free in Vermont) or radon@vermont.gov.2

Money and guidance

  • We earn commissions from affiliate links to Airthings radon monitors. Each one is labeled “Affiliate link.” Details are on How we make money.
  • Affiliate links never change our guidance. Wherever we discuss testing, the Health Department Lab’s kits are listed first.
  • We don’t call any product “best” or “tested,” because we don’t test products.

Not medical advice

We share official guidance only. For questions about your health, talk with a health care provider.

Corrections

If something on the site is wrong, out of date or doesn’t match its source, email hello@vermontradon.com with the page and what you found. We check the source, fix the page if needed, and update its reviewed date.
